Sam Charleston and Lynne Blackwood for Salisbury St Paul's on 3rd November
Sam and Lynne’s pledges to you…
1️⃣ Fixing our Roads and pavements
Sam and Lynne are working to improve the condition of the roads across the ward, and tackle speeding with speed indicator devices where they are needed most.
2️⃣ Action on the Cost of Living Crisis
Sam and Lynne will be campaigning to see council properties such as libraries and offices remain open for people to keep warm.
3️⃣ Improving our public transport services
Access to public transport services is vital for residents here. Sam and Lynne will ensure that bus routes serve residents’ needs, fight for accessibility to services and fares are affordable.
SAM CHARLESTON - A REAL RECORD OF ACTION
Since being elected to Salisbury City Council in May 2021, Sam Charleston has been delivering for our area and Salisbury.
With residents and local businesses being hit with the rising cost of living, Sam will be demanding Wiltshire Council do more to provide help for people who will be most affected.
“Whilst I was delighted to be elected to the City Council, this area needs a local champion on Wiltshire Council to help it get the support it needs for our roads, pavements, public transport and the cost of living crisis,” said Sam.
“This election is your opportunity to vote for a local champion who will stand up for our area and Salisbury on Wiltshire Council so that it gets the attention it needs. I missed out by 32 votes last year. Every vote will count this time around.”
“I’ve only got to know Sam Charleston in the last four years, but in that time I’ve come to really respect the way he fights for the residents of St Paul’s. He was tenacious in getting the council to move the children’s play area that was threatened by the River Park project. He lives in the ward and shares the concerns of local people. St Paul’s needs a local person at County Hall.” - Cllr Paul Sample.
Who will get things done in St Paul's and for Salisbury?
The Liberal Democrats - who are working for Salisbury | Conservatives who are letting us down |
🔶 Investing in a greener Salisbury | ❌ Increased car parking charges, and voted for charging disabled blue badge holders, Sunday Parking and hiked the price of parking permits. |
🔶 Getting value for money for you | ❌ Ambulance, dentists and GP waiting times at record highs and a crisis in social care. |
🔶 Keeping our green spaces safe Unlike Conservative-controlled Wiltshire Council, Liberal Democrats on Salisbury City Council successfully banned the use of dangerous weed killer on City Council land. | ❌ Conservative-controlled Wiltshire Council make important decisions affecting Salisbury all the way in Trowbridge - over 30 miles away! |
Vote Lib Dem to get a local champion as our next Wiltshire Councillor
Sam Charleston lives in the ward and will be a first-class councillor. Sam has a proven track record of delivering for our area and Salisbury:
✅ Sam listens to residents. He and Victoria run regular resident surveys to get your views on our area and city.
✅ Sam fought hard to ensure the Ashley Road play area remains open whilst the River Park project continues.
✅ Sam produced a “Cost of Living Money help sheet”, so residents here could find advice and support should they need it.
As one of your current local city councillors, Sam has worked hard since May last year to deliver a brighter and more sustainable Salisbury.
One of the biggest worries for Sam and residents here is the cost of living crisis, with people here saying that Wiltshire Council and this new Conservative Government aren’t doing enough to help.
However, a Conservative win in Salisbury St Paul’s, would rubber-stamp this current direction of travel and let the Conservatives know they can ignore people here and still win.
With vital services being cut to the bone, voting for Sam Charleston and the Liberal Democrat team would send a message that you won’t be taken for granted.
“I am raising my family here. I want our area and this city to be the best place for them. But I see the state of the roads and the lack of support for our residents and our high street, and I know we can do better. The chance to get a local champion who will stand up for our area and city is now.”
Labour are out of the running… and the Green Party aren't standing!
🔸 In 2021 in Salisbury St Paul's Labour and the Green Party came a distant third place and fourth place.
🔸 Sam Charleston missed out by just 32 votes last election. Every vote for Labour risks a Conservative win.
🔸 The Liberal Democrats are the largest opposition group on Wiltshire Council - The Green Party have no Wiltshire Councillors!
Lynne Blackwood is your Liberal Democrat Candidate for the City Council seat in Salisbury St Paul’s.
Lynne has already been campaigning hard with the Liberal Democrat team in Salisbury over the summer.
Lynne is particularly worried about the condition of our roads and pavements.
“I need to use a walker to help me get around. But the dire state of the roads and pavements can make this a real challenge for me,” said Lynne. “Speaking to my neighbours and residents all across the ward, I know I am not the only one.”
“One of my priorities will be to give our roads and pavements the attention they need, so people can feel safe leaving their doors.”
“Like Sam, I want to ensure residents are actually listened to, so that our community is shaped by us, and not dictated by Conservatives in County Hall.”
“You will have two votes on polling day, use both for a strong Liberal Democrat Team who will work for you, all year round.”
